Job Description:
The Lichtman Lab is looking to hire a fellow to join a
large-scale high-throughput connectomics project. The project is a
collaboration between 8 research groups (Harvard, Princeton,
Google, Allen Institute, Cambridge University, MIT, and Johns
Hopkins University), aimed at reconstructing 10 cubic millimeters
of mouse brain at nanometer resolution. In this role, the hire will
lead data acquisition efforts at an electron microscopy facility at
Harvard, including operating and optimizing the imaging pipeline,
developing high-throughput quality control workflows, as well as
performing downstream data analysis. The imaging pipeline involves
a custom-built tissue mill integrated with a 91-beam scanning
electron microscope, enabling automated imaging of large volumes of
neural tissue at record speeds. Given the pioneering nature of the
project, a substantial amount of method development and
troubleshooting is expected. The position will be supported by a
federal grant for up to 3 years, contingent on continued
availability of funding. The hire will work alongside other
scientists in the Lichtman Lab and the Neurotechnology Core
Facility. They will have the full intellectual support of highly
experienced SEM microscopists, engineers, computer scientists, and
the lab PI. The hire is expected to attend regular lab meetings and
meetings of the wider project team, where they will intermittently
present their work and receive feedback.Basic Qualifications
