Become part of our mission-driven team and help envision the future of science.About the RoleWe are seeking a dynamic and visionary Principal Scientist of Protein Sciences to build and lead our protein sciences team from the ground up. In this pivotal role, you will manage and mentor a team of talented scientists, while remaining hands-on in the lab to drive innovation and execution. Your expertise will be critical in pioneering both the adoption of best practices and the development of novel methodologies. As a key strategic partner, you will collaborate closely with our machine learning team to incorporate cutting-edge data analytics into our research processes. Your leadership and contributions will be instrumental to the success of our company, positioning us to achieve groundbreaking advancements.   • Build best practices: Create the protein sciences group at FL109, help define strategic objectives, recruit top talent, and establish foundational processes.
  • Deliver results: Perform and manage protein engineering projects, including the design, expression, purification, and characterization of proteins and biomolecules.
  • Innovate: Apply advanced protein engineering methods to express, purify and characterize biomolecules, import new concepts from other fields and develop new best practices by collaborating with cross-functional teams including data sciences.
  • Analyze and Interpret: Identify broad implications of findings that transcend the immediate experimental context.
  • Strategically Contribute: Make substantive conceptual contributions to project activities and scientific strategies.
  • Document and Disseminate: Coordinate communication and patenting of findings, serving as a major contributor to these processes.The ideal candidate will have:
    • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Engineering, or a related field with minimum of 6 years of post-graduate experience.
    • Extensive experience with protein expression (cell free, bacterial, mammalian), purification (affinity, SEC, IEX, etc.) and with biochemical and biophysical characterization (SDS-PAGE, nanoDSF, BLI/SPR, etc.)
    • Experience with purification of multi-subunit complex and membrane proteins
    • Experience collaborating with computational teams is a plus, particularly in data injection, analysis, and generation of insights from computational outputs
    • Experience using automation
